Costs and FAQs

My counselling fees are £35 per hour, although negotiable if you are a student, unemployed or have other difficulties. The first session's fee is only £25 in order that you may discover for yourself, at a competative rate, the benefits that counselling can bring you.

Qualifications - I have a diploma in Humanistic Counselling and also in Eating Disorders. I am a member of the B.A.P.C. and, as such, abide by their code of ethics. I am also an Affiliated Practitioner for the National Centre for Eating Disorders.

Until February 2004 I worked at a local doctor's surgery for three years, treating clients from all walks of life suffering from depression, low self esteem, panic attacks, PTSD, stress, transgender issues, bereavement etc. I used mainly Cognitive Behavoural Therapy here, (due to the limited number of sessions)

I have been trained by the Womens's Resource Centre where I counselled for a year. This has given me invaluable experience in such sensitive issues as domestic violence, sexual abuse, rape, self-harm etc.

Since May 2001 I have also counselled from my home business of 'Whitstable Counselling Services'. This practice is in Whitstable, which is also within easy reach of Canterbury, Faversham, Herne Bay, Margate, Broadstairs and all stops in between,(being serviced by a main line station). My practice is also situated 5 minutes away from the Thanet Way, which has good links to the M2, Sittingbourne, the Isle of Sheppey etc.

F.A.Q.

Q - Who is counselling for?
A - Any person who seeks change, who feels stuck, or who is where they do not want to be due to suffering from any of the conditions listed under.

Q - What conditions can it help?
A - I offer face to face and telephone counselling for issues such as Anxiety, Bereavement, Depression, Low Self-Esteem, Panic Attacks, P.T.S.D., Relationship problems, Stress, and Transgender issues. I offer stress counselling to businesses for their employees (in small groups of three). I also counsel for Eating Disorders such as Anorexia, Bulimia, Obesity and Weight Problems.

Q - How can Body Analysis/Counselling help weight loss?
A - Body Composition is a more significant indicator of health than simple body weight. Body Analysis is an excellent means of monitoring changes of the body composition of a particular individual over a period of time and a great motivational tool in achieving a leaner healthier body. This is therefore a highly recommended aid to a healthier lifestyle and diet free weight loss.

This, combined with CBT counselling can enable vastly improved healthy weight loss goals being achieved. Comfort eating can stem from your emotional state. Counselling enables you to understand these emotions and can empower you to enjoy eating to live and not living to eat. Being overweight can also be an emotional protection from some of the horrors experienced in life. Counselling can enable you to deal with these horrors and not hide behind your weight.

Q - How can counselling help with anorexia and bulimia?
A - Once you understanding why you do it, you then have the power to choose if you want to continue with your present choices or change to other practices that could benefit your health more positively. Counselling can give you better understanding of your real self and your needs. This then gives you more power and choice in the ways that are right for you.

Q - How long does the process of counselling take normally?
A - As each person is unique, having very different issues, problems, needs, wants, aims, and abilities, counselling has by its nature, to be adaptive to that person. There is no 'norm'. Some people find six to eight sessions (over the same number of weeks), are enough to enable them to discover more effective ways of coping with their problems. Some take less, some take more.

Q - How often?
A - Usually once a week, each session lasting one hour.

Q - How much does each session cost.
A - Counselling fees are £35 per hour, unless you are of limited means, a student or unemployed when these fees can be reduced. First session's fees as shown above, first paragraph.
